Cigars and the World Wide Web

Cigars and the Internet

The IPCPR show is in full swing now and, like the majority of cigar lovers, I’m not one of those at the show.  Fortunately for us that aren’t lucky enough to be smoking up NoLA this year we can still enjoy a lot of what the show has to offer.  Thank you internet.

Many cigar makers, retailers and cigar journalists are “wired” now.  We have Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, cigar forums and these crazy things called blogs to keep us connected to the action.  Although I’m spending the weekend between my local B&M and taking it easy at home, I’ve been able to see a ton of pics and videos as well as news updates from the show.

Most of this has been through Twitter, which has allowed The Stogie Review guys, Chief Hava, Hayward from Famous and a few others to keep their followers updated.  I’ve been able to drool over the new Nosotros cigars from illusione, the Cain from Sam Leccia, Fuente’s OpusX Lost City, some cool custom motorcycles and even some hot girls doing shots at a club. Yeah, it’s not ALL about cigars!

I’m a relative newbie to the cigar scene, and I really appreciate the wealth of information that the internet has for a cigar fan.  You can learn something as simple as setting up your first humi or as complex as growing and fermenting your own tobacco – it’s all available on the web.  I couldn’t have learned what I have in a couple short years if it wasn’t for the world wide web.  I’ve got great B/SOTL on cigar forums that have been very gracious to share information with me anytime I’ve asked.   Not to mention, most importantly, I’ve met others in my area that share my passion for a fine smoke.   The internet is definitely one of my favorite “cigar accessories”.

What say you?  How has the internet affected the way you enjoy your cigar hobby?

I agree with you Tim, the Internet is definitly one of my favorite cigar accessories as well! Thanks to the forums and several of the websites created by fine BOTL, i have been able to advance quick in my knowlege of stoggies, keep up with the newest sticks on the shelves, learn about the blenders, and meet people in my area for a smoke. Heck even travel halfway accross the country to meet up with innernet BOTL :)
    Great article !
