In Search of the Perfect Cigar

Illusione eccj

I’ve smoked quite a few cigars that I thought were excellent cigars.  Some of my current favorites are the Illusiones, especially the Epernay line, and the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero. These cigars are consistently well made, great looking, excellent burning and, most importantly, offer some fantastic flavors.

But I’m not sure I’ve ever smoked a ‘perfect’ cigar, a true 100 out of 100. I’ve had a few that I’d score in the mid-90′s, but have yet to smoke a cigar that I’d say earned a perfect rating. No worries, I’ll enjoy the research that I’ll have to put in to find ‘the one’.

What about you, have you ever smoked a 100 point cigar? Leave us a comment and let us know what it was and tell us what it was about this cigar that earned it your perfect rating.

I haven’t seen many rated 100, I am assuming you are referring to ratings in CA, correct? Got a link to a list of them by any chance?

Just asking in your opinion, not based on anything that anyone else says – but what you would consider a perfect cigar.

I did smoke a few cigars which I would consider to be a 100. But I have smoked more than one of these and the next one was maybe a 90, so I would consider it a 95, by my book. I think consistancy has a lot to do with a rating, and someone who only reviews one of which they are reviewing cannot fully give an accurate rating. Great lil article Timmy!

I haven’t smoked a 100. I’m still hunting though. And to me that’s going to be a lifelong hunt.

I’d have to say, hands down it would be a Pardagas Serie D #4. The second this smoke hits your nose you are sent into another world. Close second would be the Hoyo De Monterey Epicure Especial #2, unfortunately the last box received from Cigars-of-cuba were all plugged (09 date)
Cigars are so subjective, it’s always hit and miss it seems, but i’ve been getting better at choosing things by initial smell and feel. Your nose and fingers start getting in tune with what you like, much more so than any magazine review.. But i guess that’s the fun in it all.. trying new things. Hand picking in person at a good shop has helped me find some great ones, instead of the gamble one takes by ordering sight-unseen online..
Give the Seire D #4 a shot, a classic that always seems to deliver.
